Now for some big news. Amazon has announced it is changing the way authors in their Kindle Unlimited program are being paid (you can read more about this Selena Kitt, from my good friend and fellow erotica author Selena Kitt). The long and the short of it? Authors will no longer be paid when you borrow a book. They will be paid per page read.
This could lead to a catastrophic drop in income for a lot of erotica writers, especially those who write short stories. With length in mind, I’ve always tried to be fair and price accordingly – anything under 10,000 words I normally price at 99 cents as payment for borrows can subsidise this.
With the new pricing structure Amazon is proposing, this is simply no longer viable. Authors will be paid mere pennies per page and anyone who borrows a book but doesn’t read it or finish it? Well, those authors will be paid next to nothing.
What this means is simple – I’m changing direction. I love writing cuckold and hotwife erotica and will continue to do so, but I will be writing longer, more involved stories. These will be priced accordingly, at $2.99 or above depending on their length. However, I will always price at 99 cents for the first 48 hours of release so you guys can pick up discounted copies. Mailing list subscribers will ALWAYS receive the 99 cent price for new releases.
